Here is my once a month update.
I am beginning to realize one of the largest problems that I have with the company I am currently working for. It’s not the people and it’s not the work. Well, no I lied, it IS the people and it IS the work. It’s just so bleeding boring in this company.
Two things of interest in the past few weeks: First off, a couple weeks ago I went out to lunch with couple of my coworkers. One guy’s a relatively young man who’s just had his first child. He brings up the fact that he wanted to buy a lawnmower and that he’s been researching self propelling lawnmowers for about $400. After finishing his lawnmower shopping experience (quite entertaining by the way), the other 2 coworkers immediately offer their own opinions on lawnmowers (even more entertaining). “You shouldn’t get self propelled, it’s heavy, expensive, and useless”, “You should get one that has very easy height adjustment”, or “My dad worked for a lawnmower company, believe me when I say I know my stuff about lawnmowers”. Of course I wanted to fit in so I started injecting my own thoughts about lawnmowers into the conversation, and being that I have plenty of experience with the whole process, I was able to provide intellegent jabber about lawnmowers. After I came back from lunch and resituated myself back in front of my computer in my cubicle, I thought to myself: “What the f*ck did I just talk about??”
The other thing worth mentioning actually just happened today morning, and it dealt with the preference of radio stations around the engineering cubes. Out of nowhere, I hear an engineer yell out “Hey Jeff! Guess what I’m listening to!”
Possible responses I hoped to hear:
1) “Some guy called Jay-Z, he’s got the illest flows!”
2) “Finger Eleven, their song ‘One Thing’ is the hottest song right now”
3) “Everyone on the Oakland A’s got traded! Now we won’t have such chokers on our team!”
Alas, what the engineer really said was far from the three I just mentioned. Instead I heard: “Liberal news and talk show on XM Radio!” I zone out immediately. When I do decide to listen in on their conversation again it turns out that two engineers have gone and debated on whether PBS is the most left-winged/liberal station on network tv.
Enough ranting, why don’t some of you people out there buy a motorcycle so we can go riding?? I’m up to 140-150 miles on my bike now.
